Age: 18
Lives: Deepest, darkest Wales!
Competing for: 11 years now. I got hooked on the sport when my Mum took me to my first pleasure ride when I was 8 on my 11hh Section A pony Amigo,
Current horses: Ametista (Tissy) and Madjin,
2010: Currently on a gap year of which I spent some of my time training to be a Scuba diving guide out in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. Now the season has started I’m back in the UK training my horses. I have been given a place to study Physiotherapy at Keele Univeristy which I will start this September.
Training: At the moment is really easy as it’s my full time job as I’m lucky enough to be funded by my parents for the time being (although I did everything in the 6th form, exercising them and studying inbetween
Best Results: 1st at the Dukeries FEI 2* 120km Young Rider race and 13th at the World Young Rider Endurance Championships last year (2009) - it’s the best result a GB rider has ever had at a World Championships and I endeavour to better that, whether it is as a Young Rider or a Senior in the future.
Plan for 2010: This year I would love to do 160km with my new horse Madjin and I’m aiming Tissy for the European Championships in Germany this August – hopefully to come back with gold!
Meet my horses:
HS Ametista:
Bought her from Halsdon Stud in Devon (originally for my Mum!). My gut instincts about her talent proved to be right and I’m so proud of her.
Breed: Pure Polish Arabian
Height: 14hh
Colour: Grey
Age:12
Nickname: Tissy
How long you’ve had her: 8 years
What she eats: Baileys Endurance Mix, Baileys Outshine
Character traits: There’s a reason her nickname is Tissy, hehe! She’s a very wired determined little mare, that gives you everything with all her heart.
What you love most about her: The way she whinneys and canters up to me when I’ve been away.
Madjin des Pins:
I have been very kindly loaned Madjin who was bred in France especially for endurance from Cefn Du Endurance, who are one of the UK’s leading endurance yards. He’s been an interesting project and a bit of a challenge but I love him to bits and he’s coming on so well.
Breed: French Anglo Arab
Height: 15.3hh
Colour: Grey
Age: 10
Nickname: Madji Boy
How long you’ve had him: 5months
What he eats: Baileys Endurance Mix, Baileys Outshine
Character traits: A stressy gelding, we always joke we don’t have to worry at competitions as he does enough for everyone, he is quite unaware of his size and is a bit like Bambi around the yard but he’s so eager to please and is so very kind natured.
What you love most about him: His eagerness to do what is asked of him and the way he likes to protect me.
